School taxi contracts
Procuring passenger transport is big business, and a significant part of many authorities’ expenditure. School taxi contracts are almost always procured via a Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS).
The DPS is a pre-approval process that transport operators must pass before being accepted as potential operators for passenger transport services. Operators who meet the minimum standards will be accepted onto the DPS and invited to tender for contracts. Applications to join the DPS can be made at any time.
Contracts requiring the use of buses and/or coaches are normally procured six to nine months before they commence, whilst contracts requiring the use of a taxi/private hire have a shorter lead in period.
